Bucket ladder dredgers on request
Bucket ladder dredgers, or bucket dredgers, are rarely advertised, and most change hands directly between owners. Send us your requirements and we will approach owners for you:
- bucket size and number of buckets
- maximum dredging depth and ladder length
- output and type of material
- stationary or self-propelled
- year of build, class and delivery area
Please contact us with your specifications.
How a bucket ladder dredger works
The buckets run on a chain around a ladder that is lowered to the bottom. Each bucket cuts into the soil at the lower end, carries the material up and empties it into a chute at the top, from where it flows into a barge alongside or onto a conveyor. The dredger holds position on anchors and winches and moves sideways across the cut. Most bucket ladder dredgers are stationary, but some are self-propelled and can sail to the site under their own power.
When to choose a bucket ladder dredger
A bucket ladder dredger produces a nearly undiluted cut with an even bottom profile, and it can handle stiff clay and soft rock. That makes it suitable for work where accuracy and limited mixing with water matter. For loose sand over long distances, a cutter suction dredger or a trailing suction hopper dredger is usually more productive; for work near quay walls and in confined areas, a backhoe dredger is a common alternative.
What does a bucket ladder dredger cost?
There is no list price for a used bucket ladder dredger. The price depends mainly on:
- Bucket size and output – bucket volume, chain speed and production.
- Dredging depth – ladder length and the depth the dredger can reach.
- Drive and power – diesel or electric, installed power and running hours.
- Propulsion and class – stationary or self-propelled, class status and navigation area.
- Condition – wear of buckets, chain, tumblers and ladder, and the docking history.
- Location – the cost of towing or transport to your project.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a bucket ladder dredger cost?
That depends on bucket size, dredging depth, drive, propulsion, age and condition. Send us your requirements and we will send you suitable dredgers with full specifications, or ask for a valuation of a specific dredger.
What is the difference between a bucket ladder dredger and a bucket wheel dredger?
A bucket ladder dredger lifts the material with a chain of buckets and loads it into barges. A bucket wheel dredger is a suction dredger with a rotating wheel of buckets instead of a cutter head, which loosens the soil before it is pumped away. Bucket wheel dredgers are listed with our cutter suction dredgers.
Can you find a bucket ladder dredger that is not listed?
Yes. Send us the bucket size, dredging depth, output and delivery area you need, and we will approach owners for you.
How do I sell my bucket ladder dredger?
Send us the main particulars, bucket and ladder details, class status and recent photos via List your vessel, or contact us directly. We advise on a realistic asking price and present the dredger discreetly to buyers worldwide.
